Golf Day adds to Narrandera Cup weekend

Adding another feather to the Narrandera Cup Carnival bow, the Narrandera Race Club (NRC) two-person ambrose will give golf and racing fans another reason to visit the region on the weekend of July 11-12.
The inaugural event, hosted by Narrandera Golf Club on Saturday, July 11, kicks off a massive two-day Narrandera Cup Carnival.
With an 11.30 am BBQ at Narrandera Golf Club, followed by the two-person ambrose that will be a 12.30 pm shotgun start, the day leads into the Narrandera Cup Calcutta on Saturday evening at Narrandera Ex-Servicemen’s Club before Sunday’s Bendigo Community Bank Narrandera Cup Race Day.
Golf cart bookings are filling up fast, and there has been a lot of early interest in the event.
“We’re very happy to host the event, and only pleased to get involved in the Narrandera Cup Carnival,” said Narrandera Golf Club President, Mark Robertson
“It’s the general feel that the event will be well-supported, and hopefully we can attract a few new golfers to the club and people to town.
“We’ll have a BBQ lunch that day, and it’s a social event, so anyone can come and play and compete.”
The Narrandera Golf Course is the hidden jewel of the Riverina golfing landscape, and Mr Robertson believes players will enjoy taking on the premier 18-hole course with green, undulating fairways and well-maintained greens.
“It’s a good course, and after the summer we’ve had, it’s in really good nick,” he said.
“We have players coming from Wagga and Coolamon who have praised our course, which says a lot.”
The addition of the Narrandera Race Club two-person ambrose to the 2026 Narrandera Cup Carnival is an important step in the right direction, according to NRC Racing Manager, Michael Bailey.
“The Narrandera Race Club is committed to growing our winter racing carnival,” he said.
“The jewel in the crown is the Bendigo Community Bank Narrandera Cup Race Day, which will be run on Sunday, July 12 this year.
“We are teaming with Narrandera Golf Club to stage the inaugural two-person ambrose on Saturday, July 11, which will work nicely in the lead-up to the annual Narrandera Cup Calcutta at Narrandera Ex-Servicemen’s Club.”
Mr Bailey suggested there were other opportunities for businesses to get behind what is fast becoming one of Narrandera’s biggest weekends.
“We really want to bring visitors to Narrandera for the entire weekend and showcase all the attractions Narrandera has to offer,” he said.
“We would welcome further community involvement, such as a Sunday morning breakfast extravaganza at one or more of the local coffee shops or cafes.
“The opportunity is there now with the interest already shown in the golf day and the appearance of special guest, Malcom ‘Miracle’ Johnston, at the free-to-enter Narrandera Cup Calcutta.”
The Narrandera Race Club two-person ambrose is $40 per person to play on Saturday, July 11, and with cart bookings filling fast, readers are encouraged to book their place as soon as possible.
